Maharashtra: 16 Dead in Vidarbha in 10-day Rain Toll

16 Dead in Vidarbha region in Maharashtra due to heavy rains in the past 10 days ,damaged 4,500 houses, and affected 54,000 hectares of agricultural land. The state government is responding to the situation.

Torrential Rains Claim 16 dead in Vidarbha: Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region devastated by heavy downpour in 10-day period

In the past ten days,16 Dead in Vidarbha due to Heavy rains wreak havoc. Approximately 4,500 houses were damaged and nearly 54,000 hectares of agricultural land affected in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region. 2,796 people relocated, mainly in Yavatmal district.

Fadnavis Assures Preparedness:

On Sunday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis provided assurance to the public that the state government is fully equipped and ready to tackle the challenges arising from the continuous heavy rainfall.The Nagpur division has seen three deaths each in Gadchiroli and Bhandara districts, two deaths each in Wardha and Gondia, and one death reported in Chandrapur since July 13.

The Vidarbha region is divided into two divisions – Nagpur and Amravati, with the former encompassing Nagpur, Gondia, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Wardha districts, and the latter including Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Washim, and Buldhana districts.

Heavy Rainfall in Maharashtra:

In the last 24 hours until 8.30 am on Sunday, several areas in the region received heavy rainfall: Akola recorded 107.9 mm, Yavatmal 24.0 mm, Wardha 23.4 mm, Amravati 15.6 mm, Nagpur 6.7 mm, Gadchiroli 3.0 mm, Gondia 2.2 mm, Brahmpuri (in Chandrapur) 2.4 mm, and Buldhana 2.0 mm, as per the Regional Meteorological Centre in Nagpur.

In response to the situation, State Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Anil Patil visited Yavatmal to assess the conditions. In a press conference, Devendra Fadnavis disclosed that on July 21, three people lost their lives in rain-related events in Yavatmal district. He also declared financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to be provided to the families of each of the deceased .
