Two Professors Face Suspension at Ghaziabad College After Student’s Greeting Sparks Controversy

 

In a Ghaziabad college, two faculty members faced suspension on Saturday, following an incident during an induction program. A student greeted the audience with ‘Jai Shree Ram,’ but it led to controversy when a video of the incident went viral.

Sanjay Kumar Singh, the director of ABES Engineering College, stated that professors Mamata Gautam and Shweta Sharma were suspended after an inquiry. He emphasized that the college took quick action against their behaviour, deeming it inappropriate.

 

Student’s ‘Jai Shree Ram’ Chant

The incident, which occurred on October 20, featured a student chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ in response to others in the audience. One of the teachers asked the student to leave the stage, arguing that the slogan didn’t belong in cultural events.

This video sparked outrage, particularly among those associated with Hindutva groups, leading to demands for action against the faculty members.

One of the suspended professors later clarified in a video that neither she nor the institute had any issue with the ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogan. She expressed that she felt targeted and distressed by certain individuals.

The police are investigating the matter, and appropriate action will be taken as necessary.
