New Delhi witnessed an extensive security operation on October 10, 2026, as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) pressed ahead with its proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Authorities responded with a large-scale security deployment, surveillance equipment, detention arrangements and traffic restrictions across the national capital.

According to reports published on Saturday, more than 35,000 police and paramilitary personnel were deployed across Delhi. The measures were introduced after Delhi Police denied permission for the planned gathering, citing concerns about public order and the management of crowds.

The proposed Jantar Mantar protest has attracted attention because of its political demands, the scale of the police response and the potential disruption to daily life in the capital. Authorities have urged people to cooperate with security personnel and remain alert to official travel advisories.

Why Is the Cockroach Janta Party Protesting?

The Cockroach Janta Party has called for a demonstration demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner of India. The protest is linked to concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, a voter-list verification exercise conducted by the Election Commission.

CJP and other critics have raised allegations about voter deletions and the fairness of the revision process. They have demanded greater accountability and transparency in the management of electoral rolls.

The Election Commission and the Bharatiya Janata Party have rejected allegations of politically motivated electoral manipulation. The claims surrounding voter-list revisions remain contested, making the issue a subject of political debate.

Despite the denial of permission, CJP organisers maintained that they intended to proceed with their mobilisation under the banner of Jantar Mantar 2.0. The disagreement over the demonstration has placed freedom of peaceful assembly and the authorities’ responsibility to maintain public order at the centre of the discussion.

Delhi Police Security Plan: 35,000 Personnel and Extensive Surveillance

The scale of the Delhi Police security operation has been one of the most significant aspects of the October 10 developments. Reports indicate that police personnel and central paramilitary forces were positioned at sensitive locations, entry points and key roads to prevent unauthorised gatherings.

The security deployment included several measures:

  • Large-scale personnel deployment: More than 35,000 police and paramilitary personnel were reportedly mobilised across the capital.
  • Barricades and checkpoints: Security teams conducted checks at important entry points and sensitive locations.
  • Body-worn cameras: Officers used cameras attached to their uniforms to record interactions and document incidents.
  • Drones and CCTV cameras: Surveillance equipment was used or planned to monitor crowd movements and security-sensitive areas.
  • Facial recognition technology: Facial recognition systems were among the reported surveillance measures.
  • Preventive detentions: Police detained people attempting to gather despite restrictions on the proposed protest.

The arrangements were intended to prevent clashes, monitor crowd movements and maintain order. Body cameras could also provide a record of interactions between police personnel and demonstrators, potentially helping authorities examine allegations of misconduct or confrontations.
