Flashback to Anti-CAA Protests: The roots of the CAA implementation can be traced back to December 11, 2019, when the bill was passed in Parliament, sparking nationwide protests. Delhi, particularly Jamia Millia Islamia and Shaheen Bagh, became the epicenters of a months-long agitation. The tensions escalated, resulting in communal riots in early 2020 in the northeastern parts of the city, claiming 53 lives and injuring over 500.

Areas such as Seelampur, Jaffrabad, Mustafabad, Bhajanpura, Khajoori Khas, and Seemapuri were closely monitored. Paramilitary personnel conducted night patrols and flag marches in sensitive areas like Shaheen Bagh, Jamia Nagar, and several parts of northeast Delhi.

The cyber unit of Delhi Police is also monitoring social media platforms to prevent the spread of provocative posts and rumors.

Peace Committee Meetings and Enhanced Patrolling: To counter misinformation and potential unrest, Delhi Police conducted at least 29 meetings with peace committee members. The objective is to ensure that citizens do not fall prey to rumors. Patrolling will be intensified in various parts of northeast Delhi, with additional paramilitary personnel expected to arrive on Tuesday.

Security Measures in Southeast Delhi: In southeast Delhi, paramilitary personnel executed a flag march, complemented by local police patrols on bikes. This multi-faceted approach aims to deter any potential disturbances and maintain a secure environment in the wake of the CAA’s implementation.

Immediate Implementation of CAA Rules: With the unveiling of the CAA rules just days before the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections, the Modi government is set to grant Indian nationality to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from three countries – Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians. According to a gazette notification, these rules come into effect immediately.
