Prominent Indian politician and ex-Kerala CM, Oommen Chandy, succumbs to illness at age 79.
Oommen Chandy, a prominent Indian politician and former Chief Minister of Kerala, passed away at the age of 79 in a Bengaluru hospital. He had been battling cancer since 2019. The Kerala government declared a two-day mourning and public holiday to honor his memory. Chandy’s mortal remains will be taken to Thiruvananthapuram for people to pay their last respects at the Congress State Committee office and later at the Darbar hall of the Secretariat. His funeral is scheduled to take place on Thursday in Puthuppally, Kottayam.

Kerala’s Beloved Leader:
Chandy was a popular and influential figure in Kerala politics, serving as Chief Minister from 2004 to 2006 and from 2011 to 2016. He was the longest-serving legislator in the Kerala Assembly, representing Puthuppally since 1970. Known as a mass leader who connected with the people, he earned immense respect for his dedicated service. Chandy won his Assembly seat for the 12th consecutive time during the 2021 elections.

Oommen Chandy is survived by his wife Mariamma and three children. His passing deeply saddened the people of Kerala and the political community, with leaders from various parties expressing their condolences and recognizing his significant contributions to the state.
