As of Tuesday, an official reported that around 31,000 individuals in Assam are still experiencing the effects of widespread flooding across ten districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert, forecasting “very heavy to extremely heavy” rainfall in different districts of the northeastern state for the next five days.  People are hit due to floods in Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts , according to the daily flood report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). 

Flood Impact:

The India Meteorological Department’s Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati issued a red alert for a 24-hour period starting from Monday, indicating the imminent threat of heavy rainfall. Subsequent orange alerts were issued for the following two days, and a yellow alert for Thursday, signifying the ongoing risks posed by the deluge.

Humanitarian Crisis:

The floods have led to widespread displacement, with thousands of people forced to flee their homes in search of safer ground. These individuals now find themselves grappling with the loss of shelter, basic amenities, and essential services, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
