Around 15 people were electrocuted on a bridge after a transformer exploded, all the people died soon after.


On Wednesday, nearly 16 people, including three home guards and a policeman died in a tragic incident that happened in Pipalkoti Village in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.

This incident occurred when an electricity transformer exploded and one of the bridge’s railing got electrified near the Namami Gange project site on the banks of the river Alaknanda in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli. They died after getting electric shock when they touched it. 15 people died on the spot including a policeman and three home guards.

The side railing of the river dam had electric current and the guard of the project site Ganesh Lal died first.Then the police got the call about the incident and on reaching there, they found 22 people were electrocuted and suffered severe injuries. The injured have been admitted to the district hospital.

The seven people who were just injured and were in a critical condition have now been shifted to the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rishikesh using helicopters.

Just after the government got to know about the incident, Rescue teams were appointed, including the State Disaster Response Force. Helicopters have been used to shift the injured to bigger hospitals.”
