In a recent announcement, Netflix Puts An End To Password Sharing In India, allowing access to its streaming service only to members within the same household. This decision comes as part of a global effort by the company to crack down on users who share their passwords with individuals outside of their immediate family. The move aims to boost revenue following a challenging period the company faced last year.

According to Netflix, all members living in the same household can still enjoy their favourite shows and movies wherever they are, be it at home, on the go, or even while on holiday. Streaming giants like Netflix and Prime are also coming with new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access to enhance user experience.

To implement this change, Netflix has initiated the distribution of emails to customers in India who are currently sharing their accounts beyond their household. This move aligns with a similar measure taken by the company in more than 100 countries, including prominent markets like the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Mexico, and Brazil. As a result, Netflix has successfully gained nearly 6 million subscribers worldwide.

Despite the crackdown on password sharing, Netflix remains dedicated to providing a wide array of entertainment choices for its members. The company continues to invest heavily in new films and TV shows, catering to various tastes, moods, and languages, so there’s always something satisfying to watch.

The earning statement from Netflix indicates that this policy will extend to all of its markets worldwide, emphasising its commitment to enforcing the new restrictions. However, to accommodate non-paying users, Netflix has introduced “borrower” or “shared” accounts. Subscribers now have the option to add extra viewers for a higher price or transfer viewing profiles to new accounts.

It’s worth noting that Netflix launched an ad-subsidised offering around the same time as the crackdown, and recently eliminated its lowest-priced ad-free plan in the US. This decision was aimed at bolstering advertising revenue by creating a wider price difference between its advertising and non-advertising tiers.

Netflix’s move to end password sharing in India and globally marks a significant step toward enhancing revenue and ensuring fair usage of its services. While some users may face inconveniences due to the new restrictions, the streaming giant is committed to providing a diverse range of content for all its valued subscribers.
