Coronavirus in India: 170 people lost their lives and near about 7818 cases are reported so far globally


Coronavirus in India: The death toll due to coronavirus has reached 170 in China and has engulfed almost the whole of China. It has spread in another 11 countries too.

As per the World Health Organization (WHO’s), the latest report published on 30 January 2010,  7818 cases have been registered so far. China being the severely affected has 7736 cases alone. Coronavirus is reported from 15 countries so far, which include: Thailand with 14 cases diagnosed, Japan having 11 cases, Singapore with 10 cases.

However, some cases are reported from, Republic of Korea, Vietnam, Australia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Philippines, India, Germany, United Arab Emirates, United States of AmericaMany countries have implemented evacuation and quarantine plans for the citizens wanting to return from China. Russia has also decided to close all its 43,300km border on with China as a precautionary measure to stop contagion.

What is Coronavirus? And where did the virus originate?

According to WHO, Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to severe diseases such as SARS and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). The name Coronavirus comes from a Latin word corona, which means crown or halo. Little is known about it so far. However, it is clear that it transmits Human-to-human.

Chinese health authorities and WHO are rigorously trying to find out the origin of the virus, which they say is more likely came from the seafood market in Wuhan. WHO also said, animals can be the main reason for the outbreak.

According to the Chinese Scientists Snakes, including the Chinese Krait and the cobra are the main source of the newly discovered virus.

What are the Symptoms?

According to WHO the signs of symptoms include, fever and cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. If it goes serious it can lead to pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.

How deadly it can be?

Some experts say it may not be as deadly as other types of coronaviruses like SARs, due to which 800 people lost their lives globally and in China, 300 people had lost their lives during 2002 and 2003. SARS had also been first reported in China. However, in China, Coronavirus is more widespread than SARS.

Coronavirus cases in India

India has confirmed one case of Coronavirus in the state of Kerala on January 30. The patient has been studying at Wuhan University, he has been tested for the virus and was positive. He was immediately hospitalized and has been kept in isolation to stop it from spreading further. However, he is now stable and is still under observation.

What Precautions to be taken?

As there is no vaccine for the virus now, to stop the virus spreading globally many efforts are done by the countries, the primary victim of the virus (China) has sealed off Wuhan where the Virus had emerged first. Several Airlines have cancelled their flight operations to china which including, British Airways and United Airways.

Apart from all other measures WHO has issued precautionary steps to stay safe. 

1. Frequently clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

2. When cough or sneeze cover your mouth with a tissue, throw tissue immediately and wash hands.

3. Avoid close contact with people who have fever and cough.

4. If you have a fever cough difficult breathing issues seek medical advice earlier and share your travel history with the doctor.

5. Raw or under-cooked animal products should not be consumed, raw food milk and animal organs should be handled carefully.
