iOS 18 Leaks: Apple May Introduce On-Device Gen AI LLM For Faster Responses And To Maintain Privacy of Users | What We Know

Apple is widely predicted to roll out its AI strategy in June of 2024, most likely during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). A recently published study has discussed the potential of the firm to introduce text-based capabilities into the iPhone as well as other devices, aping hundred percent AI intelligent features which are currently shown by Samsung’s Galaxy AI and Oppo chabots. Another emerging integration challenge is that the company is reported to provide its consumers with in-device AI feature suite, which could be faster but less powerful than competitors.

As per the revelations of Mark Gurman, the lead AI researcher for Bloomberg, the Cupertino-based tech titan is eagerly waiting to make an announcement of its AI plan that is unlike past announcements on how various AI businesses have done it. Alternatively, Apple’s focus could be on a different approach to the AI chatbot unlike ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini, which offers its talkative AI tools or features. “Instead of bringing general talk between the chatbot and other generational AI tools, Apple will demonstrate how the technology can ease the daily schedule of a person,” as said in the report.

The iPhone company has spent 10 years making predictive machine-learning algorithms a part of its core functions. Technology has acquired a discreet presence in Siri, the Photos App and Personal Voices, which was launched recently.Generative AI features can be added using an intuitive interface that does not require the user to give commands to AI but the AI works by itself in the background.

The task of implementing AI into the smartphones, on which the company’s operating system runs is quite ambitious and among the few things that might pose a huge challenge. The report mentioned earlier that Apple plans to keep its AI services running within the device instead of sending them to the cloud like before, which will make the overall performance of the features faster but at the same time might have some consequences.Such software necessitates the compute capability of the device’s hardware and may not be that efficient as their counterparts.

The tech giant may have a potential partner in Google as it is currently exploring one such solution. This could help meet the expectations of its customers. Despite the above, the Apple projection, that would be a foundational basis for their future large language model, might not be able to compete with the existing models as it would be the first version. Surprisingly, Apple’s innovations for its customers are more on engineering improvements to enhance existing functions. At the 2022 WWDC, it was the Apple Vision Pro that presented the intersection of visual and physical worlds with its impeccable mixed-reality headset. This year may be the year of advantages over competition coming from Apple AI!
