WHO investigation issues suspension letter to Indian Pharmaceuticals, Svizera labs

Just after FDA warned Emcure pharmaceuticals, another India’s prominent drugmaker Svizera Labs has been suspended by WHO for supplying tuberculosis drugs

UN agency supervising the market of drugs and medicines has suspended the supply of TB drugs from Svizera’s Mumbai based site as alleged by former it has violated the quality and management standards and has been claimed “unreliable”.

The move is a fresh blow for India’s pharmaceuticals industry, which supplies cheap generic medicines to countries worldwide but has been damaged by a series of quality problems in recent years, denting confidence in its products.

Earlier on Sepetmeber 2015, WHO had issued a warning to Svizera labs, part of Maneesh Pharmaceuticals as they found dirty surfaces, black mould in a cleaning area, low hygiene standards and inadequate record-keeping.

The latest notice has been published on WHO’S website stating all the information regarding defected quality and ill-maintained standards. WHO plays a very crucial role in monitoring drug quality in developing and poorer countries?
