In conversation with Ria Sharma, the Founder of Make Love Not Scars!


One needs a lot of courage to give up his or her career to make this world a better place. Doing something for society on the sake of a blooming career is not everyone’s cup of tea. But there are people are who are constantly trying to make this world a better place, especially for women. Once such an adorable human being is Ria Sharma, the founder of Make Love Not Scars. The organization helps acid attack survivors and it is located in Delhi.

 The foundation has helped 70 women so far. It offers medical, legal as well as financial aid to victims.  Recently, we got an opportunity to get candid with Ria.

Why Ria is an inspiration?

Ria is a 26 – year –old young woman who started this organization at a mere age of 21. She was pursuing fashion from Leeds College of Art and Design and one picture changed her entire life.  Sharma came to India to complete her University project on acid attacks survivors and that project changed her take on life. She decided to convert her assignment into a full-fledged organization.

Make Love not Scars is now 5 years old and Ria has come a long way. She says her journey wasn’t easy. She battled with sexism as well as ageism when she started off but she decided not to give up. She talked about the problems she faces as a female boss, and during a candid chit- chat she also shared her take on marriage.

She said,” In India, people think when their daughter will get married, then she will be settled. But the settlement is not about getting married. Marriage and settlement are two different concepts. If you are making money and paying your bills, you are settled. You need not to get married to become settled.”
