Google Doodle celebrates Annie Besant’s 168th Birthday!

Annie Besant is a name that not many of us have heard. This British writer, orator, women’s rights activist, socialist was a speaker for the National Secular Society (NSS) and an active public speaker of her views. She also became a part of union actions like the Bloody Sunday demonstration and the London matchgirls strike of 1888.




She later on became the member of the Theosophical Society and a famous lecturer on this subject.

Annie Besant also travelled to India and helped develop colleges and also authored various books such as, Thought Forms and The Ancient Wisdom. Even though she was a foreigner, she did a lot for this country and as Indians, we can’t thank her enough for her contributions.




On her 168th Birthday, we would like to out some time and appreciate this phenomenal women who has somehow failed to be mentioned in our History Textbooks.
