Google celebrates Rukmini Devi’s Birthday

As you open the Google homepage (India) you are greeted by a beautiful doodle which shows a woman dancing in traditional attire of Bharatnatyam and the Google letters spelled with a pink ribbon. The doodle celebrates the 112th Birthday of the legendary dancer.

Rukmini Devi Arundale. Born on this day in 1904, she died at the age of 81 in 24th February, 1986. She was a prominent dancer and choreographer of Bharatnatyam and also an animal welfare activist.

During her lifetime, she was awarded with various awards such as the Padma Bhushan in 1956, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1957 and many more.
She is also amongst the ‘100 people who shaped India’ according to India Today.
