Tech giant Meta is looking ahead to 2024, placing high expectations on Indian ‘Gen Z’ users to shape global Instagram trends. Born between 1996 and 2010, these users, known for their social media enthusiasm, are pivotal for Instagram’s future. India stands out as the platform’s largest market, boasting nearly 230 million daily active users, surpassing the US, Brazil, and Indonesia.

Paras Sharma, Meta’s Director of Content and Community Partnerships in India, notes, “Indian Gen Z’s upbeat and entrepreneurial spirit stands out as they eagerly explore new interests and trends across different domains.” Instagram’s Trend Talk survey reveals that 43% of Indian Gen Z aims for self-improvement in 2024, emphasizing personal growth and entrepreneurship.

Indian Trends: Gen Z Influence

Meta anticipates Indian users leading trends in life advice, ‘day-in-the-life-of’ content, and professional insights, driven by relatability with celebrities and creators. Sports, particularly cricket and football, dominate conversations, with the Indian Cricket Team, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Chennai Super Kings expected to remain popular in 2024.

Beyond sports, cultural figures like BTS, Swifties, AR Rahman, Shreya Ghoshal, and Anirudh, along with gaming communities in Minecraft, Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Roblox, play a significant role.
