In a groundbreaking display of innovation, Japan-based flying car manufacturer SkyDrive took centre stage at the ongoing Vibrant Gujarat event in Ahmedabad. The company showcased its cutting-edge flying car, offering a futuristic vision for urban transportation solutions that could redefine the way we commute in crowded cityscapes.

Technical Marvel in the Sky: SkyDrive’s Flying Car Features

SkyDrive’s flying car stands as a testament to technical ingenuity, measuring approximately 11.5 m x 11.3 m x 3 m (37.7 ft x 37 ft x 10 ft), inclusive of the rotors. Crafted with a combination of composite materials and aluminium alloy, the vehicle weighs around 1,400 kg (3,100 lbs). Accommodating three individuals (1 pilot and 2 passengers), this electric-powered marvel signifies a commitment to sustainable transportation solutions, paving the way for eco-friendly urban mobility.

Speeding Through the Air: SkyDrive’s Impressive Performance

One of the standout features of the SkyDrive flying car is its remarkable speed. Capable of reaching a maximum airspeed of 100 km per hour, the vehicle covers approximately 15 km in a single flight. Powered by renewable energy sources, this flying car aligns seamlessly with the global shift towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation alternatives.

SkyDrive’s Vision for India: Local Production and Market Expansion

Speaking to ANI, Tomohiro Fukuzawa, the CEO of SkyDrive, shared the company’s ambitious plans for the Indian market. “We have a plant with Suzuki in Japan, and after the market is more and more open, we want to have other plants too,” he stated. Addressing the prospect of local production in India, Fukuzawa expressed the company’s intent to make the product more accessible to the market. “We believe in India there are so many problems, so these kinds of vehicles will be useful. In that case, we want to have a plant here in India and have a market in India too,” he added. SkyDrive, with a formal establishment in July 2018, has a strategic partnership with Japanese automaker Suzuki.

SkyDrive’s Commitment to Urban Air Transportation

SkyDrive envisions a future where eVTOLs (electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles) become the norm for daily transportation, not just in Japan but globally. The company achieved a significant milestone in 2019 with its successful execution of the first crewed flight test in Japan, marking a pivotal moment in the pursuit of futuristic mobility solutions.
