Facebook has also sent out emails to its selected media partners, further indicating that it will start testing the feature from July 11, and also the downloaded video will only be available on the Facebook app, in order to the protect copyrighted content.

Facebook has now started putting the emphasis on the videos as it seeks to boost revenues and the engagement on the site. Users may have noticed how the publishers across the world are going all out to do more for the videos on Facebook: from its live to quick 2 minute videos to share with its users.

With this option, Facebook further wants to ensure that its users in India, who might not always have great connectivity everywhere, do have a chance to watch the video later.

The social media is following YouTube when it comes to the offline feature. In India, the YouTube’s offline feature has been there for some time and lets its users to save some videos to watch later. Now Facebook also wants to do the same, and challenge the great video platform YouTube, at least in India.
