Virat Kohli's selfless act to promote Ishan Kishan pays off as the young cricketer's explosive half-century bolsters India's lead in a thrilling Test match.

Ishan Kishan Reveals Virat Kohli’s Selfless Act Behind His Batting Promotion in 2nd WI Test

In a thrilling turn of events during the second Test match between India and West Indies, young cricketer Ishan Kishan shed light on a selfless act by former Indian skipper Virat Kohli. After a stellar performance by Mohammed Siraj, who took a five-wicket haul, West Indies were bundled out for 255 runs, giving India a substantial lead of 183 runs in the first innings.

With India in a dominant position, the opening pair of Yasasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma set the stage on fire with a blistering 98-run partnership in just 71 balls. Rohit Sharma achieved his fastest-ever Test fifty, while the dismissal of both openers brought a moment of anticipation as cricket fans awaited Kohli’s presence on the field. Kohli had already scored a stunning century in the first innings, and expectations were high for him to continue his splendid form.

However, to everyone’s surprise, the Indian team made a strategic decision, sending Ishan Kishan to bat at No.4 instead of Kohli. The move raised eyebrows, but it proved to be a game-changing decision. Ishan Kishan, the young left-handed batter, played an outstanding inning, scoring a rapid 52 runs off just 34 balls. This was his maiden Test half-century, helping India strengthen their position before declaring the second innings at 181 for two.

After the day’s play, Ishan Kishan opened up about the decision and revealed that it was none other than Virat Kohli himself who backed him to bat at No.4 and encouraged him to play his natural game. Kohli’s selfless act of promoting Kishan showed his belief in the youngster’s abilities and his commitment to the team’s success.

Kishan expressed his gratitude, stating, “It was really special (the half-century). I knew what the team needed from me. Everyone backed me. Virat backed me and told me ‘go and play your game.’ It was Virat bhai who took the initiative and told me that I should go in. Sometimes you need to take these calls.”

The plan worked well for India, as they set an imposing target of 365 runs for West Indies. At the end of Day 4, West Indies were at 76 for two, with R Ashwin picking up both the wickets. The hosts still faced a daunting task of chasing 289 runs on the final day to secure an improbable win.
