Shubman Gill’s Furious Reaction After Controversial Run-Out Sparks Debate in IPL 2025 Clash Against SRH

Gujarat Titans’ Shubman Gill added yet another gusty performance to his resume during the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 2 in IPL 2025. Punjab batter, 25, was in fiery form this season, and Friday’s match was no exception. Gill opened the innings and set the stage on fire with a dazzling knock of 76 runs off 38 balls, including 10 fours and two towering sixes. The top-order batsman looked in sublime touch right from the word go and shared a fiery 87 runs opening partnership in 6.5 overs with the Orange Cap holder B Sai Sudharsan, who quickly added 48 runs off 23 balls.

Gill and other batsmen gave significant contributions, setting up a score of 224 runs. Gill shared a good partnership of 62 runs for the second wicket with Buttler, who made the other batsman good with a great 64 off 37 balls for Gujarat to dominate the match. The Gujarat Titans looked well on course for a huge score and slogged to a stupendous 224/6 in their 20 overs.]\

The drama unfolded in the 13th over, when Gill was controversially run out following a third umpire’s decision; not surprisingly, the decision would have irked the GT captain. Gill appeared miffed, engaged in an animated conversation with the on-field umpire, a moment captured by the camera and later shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Star Sports, creating a stir on social media. Fans rallied to the side of Gill in large numbers, calling the decision unfair and indisputable.

Notwithstanding the hiccup, Gujarat Titans’ batting remained strong. The fiery knocks by Gill, Buttler, and Sudharsan, then, paved the way for the total of 224 runs. This marked Gill’s third consecutive fifty-plus score in IPL 2025. His other innings included 90 runs off 55 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 21 and 84 runs off 50 balls against Rajasthan Royals on April 28, proving his consistent form.

Gill, with 465 runs in 10 matches, currently stands as the fourth-highest run-getter in IPL 2025. His opening partner Sudharsan is ahead in the Orange Cap standings with 504 runs. They are followed closely by Mumbai Indians’ Suryakumar Yadav (476 runs) and Buttler (470 runs), which makes GT’s top order one of the most fearful in the tournament.

For SRH, Jaydev Unadkat was the standout with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 35 runs, while Pat Cummins and Zeeshan Ansari bagged one wicket each. The build-up to the target by SRH was hard, yet Gill’s shouting has remained the highlight of the conversation.

This incident not only portrays the highly intense moments of IPL but also opens up discussions on the making of decisions at critical junctures. However right or wrong, one thing is certain-Gill plays with a passion.
