India Clinch Silver in Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Team Event

India continued its impressive shooting campaign at the Asian Games 2026 as the women’s shooting trio of Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa Vinod and Ashi Chouksey secured a silver medal in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions team event on September 26 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

The Indian team delivered a combined score of 1,763 points to finish second in the competition. China claimed the gold medal with 1,773 points, while Kazakhstan secured bronze with 1,754 points.

The achievement added another medal to India’s shooting tally and highlighted the contributions of three talented Indian shooters competing on the continental stage.

Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa Vinod and Ashi Chouksey Lead India’s Medal Campaign

The Indian women’s team demonstrated consistency across the three demanding positions of the competition: kneeling, prone and standing.

Each shooter’s qualification score contributed to the overall team result, making every series important for India’s medal prospects.

The individual scores were:

• Tilottama Sen: 590 points

• Vidarsa Vinod: 588 points

• Ashi Chouksey: 585 points

Tilottama emerged as India’s highest scorer, while Vidarsa delivered a strong recovery during qualification. Ashi’s contribution also proved essential in helping India secure the silver medal.

Women’s 50m Rifle 3P: Understanding the Competition

The Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions, commonly known as Women’s 50m Rifle 3P, is a precision shooting discipline that tests an athlete’s concentration, stability, technique and consistency.

Competitors shoot from three different positions:

1. Kneeling Position

Shooters maintain a stable kneeling posture while aiming at a target positioned 50 metres away. Maintaining balance and controlling breathing are essential.

2. Prone Position

Athletes shoot while lying down. This position allows greater stability, but precision and consistent rifle control remain important.

3. Standing Position

Shooters compete while standing, requiring significant balance, concentration and body control to maintain accuracy.

During qualification, athletes fire 20 shots in each position, with their combined scores determining individual rankings and contributing to the team standings. The top eight individual shooters advance to the final, subject to the competition’s qualification rules.

Tilottama Sen Qualifies for the Individual Final

Tilottama Sen produced an outstanding qualification performance, finishing third in the individual standings with 590 points.

She recorded 197 points in kneeling, 199 in prone and 194 in standing, securing her place among the eight finalists.

Her consistent performance also helped India maintain its position in the team medal race.

Vidarsa Vinod Makes a Strong Comeback

Vidarsa Vinod Kochalumkal demonstrated determination during qualification after a challenging start in the kneeling position.

She responded with an impressive 199 points in prone and 196 in standing, finishing with 588 points to secure sixth place and qualify for the individual final.

Her performance provided another boost to India’s campaign, giving the country two representatives in the individual final.

Ashi Chouksey’s Contribution to India Shooting Silver

Although Ashi Chouksey finished outside the individual qualification spots, her 585-point contribution was important to India’s overall team result.

She recorded 196 points in kneeling, 199 in prone and 190 in standing, finishing 15th in the individual qualification standings.

The Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions team competition concluded with the following results:

China equalled its existing Asian Games record with its gold-medal performance, while India finished 10 points behind the champions.
