India Bagged 9 Medals in Asian Armwrestling Cup 2023

PAFI Athletes Shine in Uzbekistan, Securing Golds, Silvers, and Bronzes in Asian Armwrestling Cup 2023

India celebrates a phenomenal victory at the Asian Armwrestling Cup 2023, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from November 17 to 25. The People’s Armwrestling Federation India (PAFI) proudly sent a delegation of 12 talented athletes, led by President and Bollywood Actress Preeti Jhangiani, and General Secretary & Coach Laxman Singh Bhandari, showcasing India’s prowess in the sport.

Among the distinguished guests was Mr. Parvin Dabas, Bollywood Actor and founder of the Pro Panja League, adding glamour and support to the Indian contingent. 

The Indian team’s outstanding performance secured a total of 9 medals, comprising 3 Gold, 2 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals. Remarkably, India clinched the 3rd position in the PARA category.

Medalists and Achievements

– Laxman Singh Bhandari from Delhi stood atop the podium with a Gold Medal in the Right hand and a Silver Medal in the Left Hand in the Grand Master 70 kg category. He also serves as the PAFI Armwrestling Coach, adding to India’s triumph.

– Srinivas Gowda from Karnataka, the team’s Captain, displayed remarkable skill, securing 2 Gold medals in the PARA 90 kg category for both the left and right hands.

– Krishan Kumar  from Uttar Pradesh contributed with a Silver Medal in the PARA 75+kg category, adding to India’s medal tally.

– Shrimant Jha from Chhattisgarh claimed a Bronze Medal in the PARA 85+ kg category, showcasing strength and determination.

– Airikmenlang Shabong, Senebi Syngkli, Wanda Syiemiong from Meghalaya each secured a Bronze Medal in different categories, illustrating the diverse talent across India’s states.

Though not securing podium finishes, Karabi Sonowal from Assam, Alan Manganiang from Meghalaya, Praksh Singh Jadon from Uttar Pradesh, Pankaj Sharma from Rajasthan, and Kishore Chettri from Meghalaya exhibited commendable performances, fighting valiantly against their opponents.

 PAFI’s Vision and Future Goals

Speaking on the achievement, PAFI President and Bollywood Actress Preeti Jhangiani expressed immense pride in the team’s remarkable accomplishments. She emphasised that these victories would inspire and motivate other Indian athletes to strive for success in future international championships. PAFI, she highlighted, continues its dedicated efforts, witnessing significant improvements in each international appearance.

General Secretary and Coach Laxman Singh Bhandari hailed the team’s success, highlighting that 7 out of the 12 athletes secured medals, while the remaining 5 exhibited exceptional resilience. He acknowledged the experience gained from the championship as invaluable, contributing to the team’s growth and enhancing their prospects for securing more medals in future international tournaments.\

India’s victory at the Asian Armwrestling Cup 2023 stands as a testament to the nation’s growing presence and strength in the world of arm wrestling, promising a brighter future for Indian athletes on the global stage.
