Karwa Chauth or Kark Chaturthi

We have celebrated Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day. Today is Karwa Chauth which is a Couple’s Day. It is a day when the seven oaths of marriage are revised. It is a day that reminds us of true unconditional love between husband and wife. A wife fasts for her husband’s victory and longevity, irrespective of the whether a husband buys her wife solitaires or gifts her with an artificial set or does not gift her anything at all. It is wife’s devotion and love towards her husband that she prays for her husband’s perfect health. The fast on this day is observed from Sun rise to Moon rise. Lord Ganesha, Maa Gauri and Moon of Chaturthi tithi are the deities of this bright festival. Lord Ganesha and Maa Gauri bless the women with prosperity, longevity and well-being of their husbands.

A husband’s first responsibility is toward his wife, then follows his responsibility toward his parents and children and other family members. A wife’s first responsibility is toward her husband, and then follows her responsibility toward her children then her husband’s parents and then the rest of the relatives.

No matter how religiously you fast, it is very important that purity in thought, love and respect is maintained in the husband-wife relationship. A lot of love and respect is to be maintained between the bahu of the house and the parents-in-law not only for the festival but for the whole life.

It is not worth fasting for Karwa chauth and fighting with the mom-in-law or dad-in-law or other family memebers. Mother, being pure unconditional love, always wants to see her children happy. So, it is easier for her to forgive, but you, as a bahu, have a greater responsibility to forget the bitter moments with your mom- or dad-in-law. Is it so easy to forgive friends and is it so difficult to forgive our family members?

We must all learn to have patience with our family members. It takes at least five to seven years to adjust to a new family. We must all learn to love our family unconditionally hence making a beautiful place to live.

Happy Karwa Chauth! friends. May Lord Ganesha and Maa Gauri bless you with Saubhagya. Have a blessed day ahead.
