BONDED LABOURERS LEARN THEIR RIGHTS

They have the right to a minimum wage, basic facilities and fair treatment, but still remain in debt bondage to owners and landlords who exempt them from these rights.

Thousands of brick kiln workers in western Maharashtra are slowly learning from activists about their rights and how to get them.

These workers are mostly Adivasi tribes who are forced to work by land owners for most part of the year without any wage, few amenities and no days off just because they owe debt to owners who exploit them fully.

More so, they don’t even know how much money is still left to pay back.

But activists and Bonded Labour Eradication Programme is slowly taking care that these hardworking labour force at least know they have a right to be paid, to not be beaten or abused, to take time off and send their kids to school.
