Syama Prasad Mukherjee remembered on his death anniversary

Syama Prasad Mukherjee, the Indian Politician who served in Nehru’s cabinet as Minister for Industry and Supply is a very significant person in Indian politics.

His biggest contribution was the founding of the political party Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951. It was this party that later become the BJP or Bhartiya Janta Party.

Remembering him on his death anniversary (known as Punya Tithi in Hindi), Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted “Remembering Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee & his rich contribution to India’s history on his Punya Tithi.”

Mukhejree had held office for only three years and had died in custody after being captured for entering Kashmir on 11th May, 1953.
