It’s going to be above normal rainfall- IMD

This year the country will be receiving above-normal rainfall, which will be 106% of Long Period Average (LPA) 890mm, while the south and the central will witness the maximum rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.

IMD highlighted that the La Nina weather phenomenon will bring the maximum rainfall, especially in the second half while the monsoon will be longer.There is 96% of probability of having an excessive rainfall, with a longer monsoon.

“Once the monsoon arrives in Kerela it will make a fast progress to reach other states,” said Laxman Singh Rathore, director general, IMD. There will be a meeting where the IMD department will meet the agricultural ministry and advise suitable measures to farmers.

The Central and Southern India are expected to have 113% rainfall of the Long Period Average (LPA), which will be the maximum in a country. The north-west of the country covering the capital is expected to receive 108% rainfall of the LPA while North-East will receive 94% rainfall of the LPA. Monthly rainfall in the country will be 107% of LPA in July and 104% of the LPA in August.
