Way back in 1938, Jawahar Lal Nehru started a newspaper called The National Herald out of Lucknow, as a mouthpiece for Indian National Congress. The paper continued till 2008, when it was shut down due to financial unviability.

However, as things turned out, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi apparantly took control of the assests of Associated Journals Ltd., the company which owned the newspaper through their own company Young India Ltd., which was challanged in court by Subramanium Swamy.

The court duly issued summons to the duo, along with the other accused in the matter, which was challanged by the Gandhis in the High Court.

However, to make matters worse for them, the High Court Bench, headed by Justice Sunil Gaur rejected their plea for exemption from appearing in Court, and said “After having considered the entire case in it’s proper perspective, this court finds no hesitation to put it on record that the modus operandi adopted by petitioners in takingn control of Associated Journals Ltd…..evidences a criminal intent…Whether it is cheating, criminal misappropriation or criminal breach of trust is not required to be spelt out at this nascant stage…”

Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are expected to challenge this order of the High Court in the Supreme Court today.
