Golden Temple observes the 32ndanniversary of Operation Blue-Star

Amid the ‘Bandh’ and tight security call given by the Sikh organization Dal Khalsa in Amritsar, the 32nd anniversary of the Operation Blue Star has been observed at Golden Temple today.

As per the reports, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar and Prakash Singh Badal Punjab Chief Minister has appealed to the people to exercise restraint and observe the anniversary peacefully.

In order to maintain the law and order in Amritsar, nearly 8,000 police personnel and six companies of paramilitary forces have been reportedly camping in Amritsar for a week.

According to reports, the police have detained several hardliners as a preventive measure.

Operation Blue Star was an Indian Military operation which took place in 1984, ordered by the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in order to establish the control over the golden temple to further flush out the extremists led by Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale.
