New Delhi World Book Fair: A Success as Always

The unique stalls of the New Delhi World Book Fair

The New Delhi World Book Fair at Pragati Maidan is one of the most awaited fairs in Delhi. The 31st edition of the fair took place from 25th February to 5th March 2023.

The National Book Trust, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, the Government of India, and the India Trade Promotion Organization organized the fair.

The NDWBF has always seen huge traction with the crowd, thanks to the variety of sections they cater to. This year, the fair saw good footfall as it made a comeback after 2 years of the pandemic.

  1. Competitive Exams

Multiple competitive exam centres had put up a stall this time. From Vision IAS to Drishti IAS, all the centres saw a large pull of students and aspiring civil servants to their stalls. Publishing houses such as S.Chand had also invited YouTuber ‘Dharmendra Sir’, who has written a book with them, to the fair.

2. Representation of Indian History

Celebrating the ‘Azadi Ka Mahotsav’  and the 75 years of Independence, a section of the book fair was dedicated to remembering and honoring the history of India. A timeline from the pre-Independence era celebrating our history’s heroes was also displayed. This was also the first time that rare pictures from the Parliament Museum and Archives were made public. These pictures were related to the first Republic Day ceremony, photos of the Constituent Assembly, and much more.

3. Nakshatra

This time the unique and exciting hall in the Book Fair was Hall No. 7 ABC, which was dedicated to stalls of astrology, palmistry, tarot card reading, Vedic science, yoga, and more. The hall attracted many people who waited in lines to get a reading of their future and understand this alternate science.

4. Children’s Pavillion

Many publishers related to Children’s literature, storytelling, educational aids, and more were present at the fair. Activities to promote the interest of the child, discussions around their growth, signing, cultural performances were all a part of the fair.

5. G20

As India holds the Presidency for G20 this year, the Book fair also had a pavilion dedicated to this.

The fair also had pavilions of different nations, such as Russia, France, Spain, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and more. Literature from these countries was put on display along with a cultural display of their nation.

The 31st edition of the book fair was a delight. The only con was the huge area over which it was spread and the difficulty of covering it on foot, but the fair was worth it. For Delhiites, the fair is an opportunity to rekindle their love for books as well as also provide a break from the monotony.
