Within a year, the Brahmin’s wife gave birth to a beautiful and intelligent boy. As the child grew, his devotion to Lord Shiva became even stronger. Later in life, when the boy went on a pilgrimage with other devotees, he was wrongfully accused of theft and sentenced to death by the king. On the day of his execution—coincidentally a Monday—the execution failed repeatedly. Mysterious forces protected the boy, and no weapon could harm him. The king, astonished and fearful, consulted his ministers and learned about the boy’s father’s intense devotion to Shiva and the power of Sawan Somwar Vrat.
Realizing his mistake, the king released the boy, sought forgiveness from the Brahmin family, and started observing the Sawan Somwar Vrat himself. This story spread far and wide, making the Sawan Somwar Vrat Katha an essential part of the ritual ever since.
