Lay’s Introduces Bacon Grilled Cheese as Its New Chip Flavor After 70,000 Contest Submissions in Annual Flavor Contest
Bold and mouthwatering, Lay’s has released an entirely new chip flavor, Bacon Grilled Cheese, putting the icing on the cake of its hit “Do Us A Flavor” contest to find what fans consider to be the best flavor. This announcement is a much- awaited after fans of the said contest submitted over 70,000 flavor entries from all over the country in hopes of getting their flavor idea to grocery shelves and a shot at the grand prize of $1 million.
Paula George, a resident of Sapulpa in Oklahoma, conceived the winning flavor dreamt close to home-his dearly departed father’s cherished bacon, and grilled cheese recipe. Warmth, memory, and nostalgia imbue George’s flavor, which hit as well at Lay’s throat as at that of the public votescence.
“Submitted by Paula George from Sapulpa, Okla., this winning flavor is a savory, nostalgic ode combining two of everyone’s favorites-bacon & grilled cheese! – Lay’s said on their official site. George said the flavor meant more than just being a mix of ingredients-it was a family and memory homage meant to kindle the warmth of a home-cooked favorite in the form of a crunchy snack.

From April to June, fans of Lay’s flocked to the polls for the top three finalists. Up against the Bacon Grilled Cheese flavor were Valentina & Lime and Wavy Korean-Style Fried Chicken-two bold submissions that demonstrate the diversity and creativity of the Lay’s fan base. Even though they didn’t snag the top spoils, both flavors runner-up will be available for a limited time, and their creators will each be awarded a hefty $500,000.
Paula George thanked and expressed excitement in a statement to News 9 saying, “Seeing Lay’s Bacon Grilled Cheese-flavored potato chips come to life was a dream in itself. Knowing that thousands of Lay’s fans across the country were able to taste something I was able to enjoy brings me such wonderful joy and gratitude for this opportunity.”
Lay’s “Do Us A Flavor” contest was started in 2012. This has then become common in Lay’s marketing and innovation strategies. It is responsible for some unique flavors, including Cheesy Garlic Bread and Southern Biscuits and Gravy. Some have made brief reappearances as limited-time specials. The contest fuels the innovation in product development for Lay’s while tying consumers closer to the company by giving them such voice—and flavor—in the company’s direction.
Lay’s chips have gone far beyond the layman. They have indeed made a name for themselves in popular culture. In one of the lighter turns of events, luxury fashion house Balenciaga once designed an $1,800 handbag that has a form very similar to a Lay’s chip bag, reflecting really how much it has entered American culture through the further ages.

Certainly, this cash prize carries the excitement, though these participants believe more is in it than just money-the sharing of memories and storytelling with a wider audience. Just like the snowplow-naming contest in Madison, Wisconsin, where residents had to vote on “Rosie the Rubbisher,” it shows that communal creativity still enjoys strong appeal.
The introduction of the flavor Bacon Grilled Cheese officially into the Lay’s lineup means that snack addicts can expect nothing less than savory options at possibly the best times, and carrying that every bite would have its own story.
