Ella D’ Verma: In the heart of New Delhi, the Vigyan Bhawan hosted a truly remarkable event. The Swadesh Conclave 2023, held on a Monday, was all about celebrating Influential India. The event managed to bring together a diverse group of 100 influencers, spanning fields like food blogging, financial planning, and travel. This year’s theme perfectly captured the essence of India’s diversity, reminding us of the strength it brings.

Among the speakers were some well-known names: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Union Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare SP Singh Baghel, and Manoj Tiwari. She spoke about the idea of “pretty privilege” even within the transgender community and her own experiences transitioning from living as a male to embracing her identity as a woman. The privileges that men enjoy and women know nothing about how it feels to have that kind of freedom in life.

Ella’s speech also highlighted the lack of opportunities for transgender individuals. She spoke about standing on university stages, sharing her life story, and inspiring students. However, she shared her frustration about not having the same opportunities for higher education due to societal biases. She also pointed out the past invisibility of transgender people and their struggle for basic rights.
