Are you a workout buff? Then make sure you always keep a check for these telltale signs of dehydration. Dehydration is a condition where our body loses more fluid than it takes in. This leads to an insufficient amount of water in our body and it becomes difficult to carry out normal bodily functions. 

As water is extremely essential for our body and physiological processes, the lack of water in our body can be harmful or even fatal in extreme cases. 

Our body often loses fluids through sweating, physical activity, urination, bowel movement, and even through breathing. However, the most intense and quick way through which our body loses water is through working out. As we sweat a lot during working out, our body loses fluids at a much higher rate. A lot of times we do not hydrate ourselves properly before a workout or after a workout and this can lead to health issues. Here are five telltale signs of dehydration that you should always keep a check on

  1. You notice a decrease in your performance- It becomes very difficult to maintain the same amount or the same level of working out if you are dehydrated. 
  2. You feel fatigued and tired very easily- On days when your body is hydrated, you might easily run a marathon, but on days when your body is dehydrated, you would find that running even for 10 minutes is tiring you out. Hence, make sure that you keep up with the hydration demands of your body.
  3. Constantly feeling thirsty- you feel a parched sensation in your mouth and it feels very dry. This constant feeling of thirst is a sign that you need to hydrate properly. 
  4. Dehydration also leads to muscle cramps- This happens because the electrolyte balance in our body is disturbed and can cause muscles to cramp. 
  5. You feel lightheaded and dizzy when you are dehydrated- the blood pressure in the body drops, making us feel lightheaded or dizzy. If you feel dizzy at any point during the workout, it’s important that you take a moment to breathe, relax and rehydrate immediately.

Another way through which you can know if your body is dehydrated is by checking the color of your urine. A darker color of urine indicates that your body needs more water.
