NCERT Launches New Modules On ‘Operation Sindoor’, Honouring Soldiers’ Bravery

Background & Purpose

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has rolled out two special supplementary modules on Operation Sindoor for students from Classes 3 to 12, under the titles “Operation Sindoor — A Saga of Valour” (Classes 3–8) and “Operation Sindoor — A Mission of Honour and Bravery” (Classes 9–12)  . These modules aim to educate young learners on national security, military strategy, and the contributions of armed forces and civilians in safeguarding India. 

2. Framing Operation Sindoor

The modules characterize Operation Sindoor not merely as a military response but also as a promise to preserve peace and honour the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack  . They highlight that although Pakistan denied involvement in the terror attack, the module states it occurred under direct orders from Pakistan’s military and political leadership  .

3. Key Content Highlights

• Military Action Details: The modules recount how, on May 7, 2025, India launched coordinated missile and airstrikes on nine terrorist sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK), destroying seven camps through the Army and striking Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammed targets at Muridke and Bahawalpur via the Air Force  .
• Technology & Strategy: They spotlight India’s modern capabilities—including air-defence systems like the S-400, ISRO satellites providing real-time surveillance, drones (Hawk, Scout, Eagle), and the synergy of Army, Navy, Air Force, and BSF in the mission  .
• Safety Emphasis: The modules stress that no civilians were harmed, explaining that targets were double-checked for precision and that only terrorist infrastructure was engaged  .
• Civilians Unite in Response: They note how communities across India showed solidarity — Muslim groups in Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Bhopal wore black armbands, Kashmir shopkeepers closed for protest, and border villages demanded firm action, breaking stereotypes and reinforcing national unity  .
• Symbolism of “Sindoor”: The name of the operation is described as a tribute to the widows of fallen victims; “Sindoor”—the vermilion mark worn by married women—is used as a symbol of solidarity, empathy, and respect, transforming grief into resolve  .

These modules are crafted in a conversational classroom format, simulating a dialogue between teacher and students to simplify complex concepts and make them accessible and interactive  . Visual aids such as precision-strike maps, images of downed Pakistani drones, and defence systems are included to enhance engagement and learning  .
