Kaam Ki Baat

From CrorePati To IPS Officer, Meet IPS Ravi Singh Saini

IPS Ravi Singh Saini, who inspired us to work hard!

In 1992, who became the first sportsperson to be honored with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award? Can you answer this question? Well, if you can, then you should try Kaun Banega Crore Pati. But if you missed it, then we are going to introduce IPS Ravi Singh Saini.

Ravi Singh participated in the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crore Pati Junior in 2001. He answered the above question correctly and was the proud winner of the season when he was just 14.

Saini later cleared the Civil Service examination and became an IPS officer. He is currently posted in Gujarat.

Beginning of the glorified journey

IPS Ravi Singh Saini completed his schooling from Visakhapatnam. He cleared his UPSC while pursuing an MBBS degree.  Saini secured All-India UPSC rank of 461 in 2014. This made him qualified enough for the Indian Police Services Examination.

Ravi inherited academic excellence from his father, Mohanlal Saini. His proud father Mohanlal is a retired honorary lieutenant Naval officer.  He was always topper throughout the academic years.

“My father was always an inspiration for me. I always want to be an officer like him. When I was doing internship after MBBS, I cleared UPSE”, said the crorepati in an interview.

KBC junior

In the year 2000, KBC announced a new format as KBC junior. The maximum prize was Rs 1 crore. Ravi answered all the 15 questions correctly and walked out as the winner. He was in class 10th then.

In an interview, Ravi recalled that he always wished to meet veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan. Through KBC junior his wish came true.

Recalling the days, Ravi said, “I was in class 10th, when I qualified for KBC Junior and was lucky enough to win Rs 1 crore. I got Rs 69 lakhs after tax deduction. This amount was reimbursed after 4 years as I was not 18 at that time.”

All the money was utilized to buy a car, land in Alwar and some portion was saved for his education.

Preparation for Civil Services

Saini is now 33-year-old. But for him, success was not a one-time attempt. He tried his luck for the very first time in 2012 where he managed to clear the preliminary exams. But Mains was not easy enough to crack.

He again appeared for UPSC in 2013 and got selected for Indian Post and Telecom, Accounts and Finance. This was not something Saini was dreaming for. So, he reappeared in 2014, and finally became an IPS officer.

He said that his dedication and hard work was the only key to success. Ravi never took assistance from any coaching class to prepare for one of the toughest exams of India. He started preparing on his own and cleared in the third attempt.

Currently, IPS Ravi Singh Saini is posted as a Superintendent of Police (SP) at Porbandar in Gujarat. He is very efficiently managing the law and order of the city.

Ravi got overnight fame after KBC. He had earned enough in comparison to his peers. But this never diverted him from working hard and pursuing his goals.
