Central government’s Swachh Survekshan Awards 2022 Announced

Indore was adjusted as India’s cleanest city for the 6th time in a row, while Surat and Navi Mumbai followed it in the next 2 spots in the Central government’s annual cleanliness survey.

In the category of best performing states in ‘The Swachh Survekshan Awards 2022’, Madhya Pradesh has secured the 1st position, followed by Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.

Good news: UPI Payments crossed ₹11 lakh crore milestone 

Payment through UPI (Unified Payments Interface) crossed a milestone of ₹ 11 lakh crore in September, as per the data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). During the month, 678 crore transactions in volume terms were done on the platform, which was launched in 2016.

Payment through UPI crossed ₹ 10 lakh crore in May this year. Last month, as many as 657.9 crore transactions worth ₹ 10.72 lakh crore took place.

In June 2022, the transaction value under UPI digital payments moderated marginally at ₹ 10,14,384 crore from ₹ 10,41,506 crore in May. In July, it increased to 10,62,747 crores.

Khush Khabri: Single charger for all cameras, Smartphones, and Tablets- EU

By late 2024, all new smartphones, cameras and tablets, will have a single standard charger, according to a new EU law. 13 voted against and 602 voted in favour.

It mandates gadget manufacturers to adopt a standard charger, at least in Europe. Makers of laptops will have extra time, from early 2026, to also follow suit.

While most Android phones come with a USB Type-C charging port, the move will have an impact mainly on Apple.

EU policymakers say the single charger rule will simplify the lives of Europeans, reduce the mountain of obsolete chargers and reduce costs for consumers.

Good news: India emerges as the World’s largest producer of sugar

India has emerged as the world’s largest producer and 2nd largest exporter of sugar. In the sugar season 2021-22, a record of more than 5000 lakh metric tons of sugarcane was produced in the country.

Out of this, 35 lakh metric tons of sugar was diverted to ethanol production and 359 lakh metric ton of sugar was produced by sugar mills. The season has proven to be a watershed season for the Indian Sugar Sector as record highest sugar exports of over 109 lakh metric tons have been registered.

97% of mobile phones used in India today are made in India, compared to 10% in 2014

Since 2014, India has been the world’s 2nd largest mobile phone manufacturer. Around 97% of the smartphones sold in India today are domestically produced, as opposed to 90% of imports in 2014, said union minister of state for electronics and information technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

Today, India is also exporting 50000 crores of the latest Samsung and Apple phones to markets around the world.

India will host its first MotoGP World Championships race at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida next year.
Moto GP is the top-flight competition of motorcycle road racing events held on road circuits under the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). The track has already hosted the Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix, held for two consecutive years from 2011 to 2013.
