Speakers at AIACHE expressed concern over current education system


Speakers at AIACHE expressed concern over current education system:- The golden jubilee celebrations of the All India Association for Christian Higher Education (AIACHE) began on Friday.

Speakers at the inaugural session, which was held at the American College, expressed major concern over the present education system, especially, during the time when the Union government was introducing its new education policy.

Roger Gaikwad, General Secretary, National Council of Churches in India (NCCI) said that apart from building the nation there is an urgent need to reform the nation’s education.
Today the education is seen as being commercialized in the country. It appears to be a privilege of the elite.

There were pressures and challenges from different groups along with an interpretation given to the term education.

Under no circumstances, should the quality of education be compromised. To keep up its commitment, it is time for institutions like the AIACHE and its members that they spread itself across the country rise up and indulge in a rave thought process, Rev. Dr. Gained said.

NCCI president P.C. Singh also commented that the faculty members should help to produce an intellectually competent, morally upright, socially committed and spiritually inspired people of the country. He urged the institutions to relook their objectives and prepare for a better tomorrow.

The Bishop, CSI Diocese of Madurai Ramnad, M. Joseph, said that education is a right of every citizen. Education was a key to transformation. Education had helped in the promotion and peace. Thus it has to be participative.

In his presidential address, R.W. Alexander Jesudasan, president, AIACHE, stated that it is only after the Missionaries were established here, more and more people stated getting benefits as educational institutions were established in various cities.

Among the top 50 colleges in the country, Christian run institutions play a pivotal role. In a transforming scenario, there is a need for protecting and also safeguarding its identity. He appealed to all the members to ensure that Christian run institutions are a place of a unique experience and not just an education institution.

Around 1500 delegates from as many as 28 States across the country are participating in the conference, which will be concluding on Tuesday.
