Smart Classroom in Meghalaya,


Meghalaya collaborates with Microsoft India to Launch “Smart Classroom” program in the presence of the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul D. Sangma and other senior officials and dignitaries. The Pine Mount School, Shillong is the first school in the North East and besides Delhi Public School, they are the only two schools regarded as a smart classroom of the future. The students of Pine Mount School showcased their excitement and commitment towards digital learning from the programs by taking the dignitaries through the projects they completed using Window based tablets.

The Meghalaya Government partnered with Microsoft India for this project to effectively implement technology in education and creating an environment where students and teachers communicate, collaborate, create access and consume content using Microsoft Technology.


The Chief Minister highlighted Pine Mount School being a government school, has created certain amount of initiatives that has been able to generate more hope to the students and teachers. It is the adoption of technology to lead. Meghalaya has been one of the first states to have been able to initiate and integrate the knowledge to empower the training for a conducive eco-system. The commitment and efficiency of partnership with Microsoft is to understand the design of the environment and identify the ambitious program of human capital development.

“It is similar like how the parents choose what is best is for their children by admitting them to schools. It is for the students to be part of a global world, to be expose and have an understanding to compete for their advantages. It is making Pine Mount School a sustainable model to educate in the 21st century.” mention the Chief Minister. By which the value of the students is inherent in their schools to be redesign. Which Mrs. A. Diengdoh also express her commitment towards digital education to transform education in her school.

It is through the course of four weeks, Microsoft India conducted several training and mentoring classes for 105 students and eight teachers of class VIII standard at Pine Mount School. These classes were aimed at fostering digital learning and teaching using Microsoft Office tools and applications for study projects in varied subjects such as history, geography, biology, physics and chemistry.

Over the last 25 years, Microsoft has been functioning as a key contributor towards a Digital India in the areas of education, digital economy, digital Inclusion and cyber security. Microsoft believes with this partnership with the Meghalaya Government, it has renewed the possibilities to empower both educators and students. “We believe integrating technology in education can play an instrumental role in helping realize this vision and building engaged, aware and digitally empowered citizens. We are deeply invested in empowering India’s education eco-system with technology, necessary for success in the 21st Century, and we will continue to support Meghalaya in its digital transformation journey” said Mr. Neeray Gill, General Manager, Microsoft India.

By the successful completion and the positive response towards this project, the state government will be launching additional digital classrooms in the state which will be using the Windows based devices.
