Magtymguly Pyragy – Healer of Human Soul

Magtymguly Pyragy, for almost three-hundred years now, has been holding onto the faith of the Turkmen soul with his writings. His philosophical ideas differentiate between good and evil. The great poet’s path to glory, serves as an admirable guideline not only to the Turkmenistanias but also for the spiritual needs of humanity.

An International Scientific Conference and Cultural event, ‘Magtymguly Pyragy – Healer of Human’s Soul’, was held at the ‘Stein Auditorium’, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on the 26th of May, 2014. The agenda of the conference was to launch a book and pay tribute to the Great Turkmen Poet and thinker, Magtymguly Pyragy, on his 290th birth anniversary.


The event commenced at five in the evening with speeches by prominent professors of various acclaimed universities like Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Kashmir etc. After the release of ‘Magtymguly ’ (selected poems) in Urdu, the concluding remarks were given by Prof. Aktharul Wase. A vote of thanks was also presented by Prof. Dr. Iqtidar Mohd. Khan.

The program continued after a tea break with some cultural events which included a session of Sufi songs, performances by the Turkmen Folk Troupe and a speech by Ms. Rashmi Agarwal, a famous Sufi singer. Magtymguly’s poetry which has been compiled and translated by Prof. Naseem Ahmad Shah, is considered to be the spiritual balm to the soul. The event ended on a happy note with a dinner for all the invitees.


Along with some of the Pyragy’s collections, many books devoted to the poet’s work were also published in order to celebrate his birth anniversary. Some of them are ‘Studies of Magtymguly manuscripts’ by Annagurban Ashirov, ‘Magtymguly is a source of inspiration’ prepared by Ahmed Mammedov and a collection of articles ‘Mirror of the Soul’.
