Khalistani Extremists Halt Indian Diplomat at UK Gurdwara Amid Escalating Tensions Over Terrorism Accusations

New Delhi :The Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, encountered a concerning incident when he was prevented from entering a gurdwara in Scotland by Khalistani extremists. This incident has occurred in the backdrop of a growing dispute between Canada and India, with Canada accusing India of involvement in the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Khalistan Activists Block Indian High Commissioner

In a video circulating on social media, a pro-Khalistan activist is seen obstructing Mr. Doraiswami from entering the Glasgow Gurdwara on Albert Drive. The video depicts two individuals near the High Commissioner’s car in the parking area, with one of them attempting to open the car door, which was locked from the inside. Eventually, the high commissioner’s car left the gurdwara premises.

It’s important to note that the Indian High Commissioner had been invited by the gurdwara management committee. However, a longer version of the video shows Khalistani extremists threatening the gurdwara managing committee staff as well.

Trudeau’s Accusations and India’s Response

This incident follows a contentious situation triggered by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations that “Indian government agents” were involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India swiftly rejected Trudeau’s claims as “absurd.” Trudeau’s allegations lacked supporting evidence, but reports suggested that this information was shared among an intelligence alliance that includes the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. India countered by accusing Canada of harboring terrorists.

Tensions between the two nations had been simmering since Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised concerns with Trudeau about rising secessionist activities in Canada during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Delhi. In 2018, India had reportedly provided Trudeau with a list of nine Khalistani operatives.
