The Uttar Pradesh T20 Cricket League kickstarted in true Bollywood style at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The star-studded opening ceremony turned into a glamorous spectacle as top Bollywood celebrities, including Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sidharth Malhotra, and Janhvi Kapoor, graced the stage and left the audience spellbound.

A Musical Start with Sunidhi Chauhan

The evening opened on a high note with singer Sunidhi Chauhan, who took charge of the stage with her powerhouse voice and lively energy. Known for her chartbusters, Sunidhi enthralled the crowd by performing hit songs like Desi Girl, Aa Jara Kareeb Se, Disco Deewane, and Aisa Jaadu Dala Re. Her performance set the perfect tone for the evening and had the audience grooving from the very start.

Disha Patani Brings Star Power to Lucknow

The excitement escalated when Disha Patani, Uttar Pradesh’s very own star, entered the stage. She dazzled with her dance moves, performing on hit tracks such as Mundiya Tu Bach Ke Rahi, Bareilly Ka Jhumka, and Slow Motion. The crowd cheered with extra enthusiasm, celebrating their local star, as Disha combined style, grace, and energy in her vibrant act.

Tamannaah Bhatia Raises the Temperature

The highlight of the evening was Tamannaah Bhatia, who brought unmatched glamour and energy with her performance. She captivated the audience by dancing to Dilwalon Ke Dil Ka Karaar, Ghaghra, Jhumka Gira Re, and Tera Nasha. The performance reached its peak when she performed on Aaj Ki Raat from her latest film Stree 2 (2024), leaving the crowd mesmerized. Tamannaah’s electrifying stage presence made her act one of the most talked-about moments of the night.

Sidharth Malhotra & Janhvi Kapoor’s On-Stage Magic

Adding more charm to the evening, Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor took the stage and entertained the crowd with their lively performance. The duo grooved to popular songs from their movie, bringing in a mix of Bollywood glamour and youthful energy.

Spectacular Fireworks and Trophy Unveiling

The entertainment wasn’t limited to celebrity performances. The ceremony was further enhanced by a dazzling laser show and a breathtaking display of fireworks that lit up the Lucknow sky.

The much-awaited UP T20 Cricket League trophy was then unveiled in the presence of the six team captains, league brand ambassador and former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, and UPT20 League Governing Council Chairman and UP Cricket Association Director Devendra Singh Chauhan.

Speaking at the event, Shukla emphasized the significance of the tournament, saying, “UP T20 Cricket League has succeeded in highlighting the talent of Uttar Pradesh and that’s the reason we see dozens of players from the state playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL).”

Chauhan added, “The scale of the state league has become bigger every year which can be gauged from the auctions, infrastructure, enthusiasm amongst the players and audience.”

Thrilling Start to the Tournament

Following the ceremony, the opening match of the tournament saw Meerut Mavericks, led by Rinku Singh, defeat Kanpur Superstars, captained by Sameer Rizvi, by a massive margin of 86 runs. This electrifying start set the stage for an exciting league ahead. The grand finale is scheduled to be held on September 6, promising more cricketing drama.

A Starry Day in Lucknow

Earlier in the day, before the grand opening, Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor were spotted in Hazratganj enjoying Lucknow’s famous basket chaat, adding a local flavor to their visit.

The opening ceremony of the UP T20 Cricket League perfectly blended Bollywood’s glamour with the passion of cricket.
