Sunday Special: ‘Real Actors Ka Time Kabhi Nhi Jayega’

It is the age of Actors, not Stars’

Today, superstardom is an outdated concept. We are in the age of ‘Actors’ where the audience just wants real acting and good content. Superstardom is a passé these days. When we say ‘Content is King’ we actually mean it. The preferences of the Indian audience has drastically changed in terms of entertainment. Web Series and short movies have completely taken over the entertainment industry. Even A-listers of the industry are now moving towards web series and internet content.

What does young India want?

Talking about Bollywood, the year 2018 saw the biggest shift.  Films like Badhai Ho, Stree, Padman, Hichki, and Sonu Ki titu ki sweety have proved that today content is the real king. Actors like Vicky Kaushal, Ranveer Singh, Rajkummar Rao have proved their mettle as an actor. Vicky Kaushal recently delivered the first blockbuster of 2019, Uri.

We are in the age of Actors, not stars. Today, everything is about Real acting. People want real and relatable characters.  2018 was a landmarking year for many actors. Some actors instantly shot to fame after the release of their films such as Kartik Aryan, Vicky Kaushal, and on the other hand, Khans films didn’t work. The audience has clearly stated that they do not care who is in the film as long as the story of the film speaks to them.

Superstardom: End of an era

Khans have delivered some evergreen films, but now, the audience wants more relatable characters.   The recent release of Ranveer Singh Gully Boy is doing really well on the box office. The story of the film is real and relatable. It’s more about real life struggle and not only about romance.

Conclusion

Making unconventional choices has become the need of the hour. Today, it’s about leaving a long-lasting impact on the audience rather than being on the screen for the longest time. In a nutshell, good and real acting is going to stay.  It would be wrong to compare new age actors and Khans of the industry but it’s time for Khans to rethink about the choices.
