Veteran actor Govind Namdev has taken a stand against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for its decision to grant an ‘A’ certificate to the film OMG 2: Oh My God. In the post, he highlighted the struggle the film faced to secure a U/A certification, considering its progressive nature.

Namdev began by expressing his frustration over the film being released with 24 censor cuts and an ‘A’ certificate, preventing the very teenagers the movie is intended for from watching it. He criticized CBFC’s apparent contradiction in passing a film like OMG 2, while the controversial Adipurush” faced less stringent scrutiny. Namdev pointed out that the latter film contained colloquial and derogatory dialogues that drew backlash, prompting the makers to revise them.

Comparing the two situations, he wrote, “CBFC should’ve applied some brain while assessing a pathetic film like Adipurush. But instead, they diverted all their brains into chopping a thoughtful and progressive film like OMG 2.” Namdev’s post resonated with concerns regarding the inconsistent standards of censorship applied to different films.

He then pleaded with the CBFC to reconsider its decision, given that OMG 2 addresses the taboo subject of sex education and is tailored for teenagers. He stressed that granting the film a UA (Universal Adult) certificate would be a wise step, allowing a positive revolution to take root for the betterment of teenagers’ upbringing in society.

OMG 2: Oh My God is a sequel to the 2012 satire and is directed by Amit Rai. Co-produced by Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal, both of whom starred in the original, the sequel features Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam, and Akshay Kumar in prominent roles. The film has garnered substantial box office success, amassing ₹80 crore.

Govind Namdev’s criticism underscores the ongoing debate about censorship standards and the need for a more consistent and reasoned approach to evaluating films of diverse themes and messages.
