Happy Birthday Vidya Balan, the unconventional Bollywood actress

Happy Birthday Vidya Balan, the woman who broke all the stereotypes

Vidya Balan is one of the most iconic and talented actresses that Bollywood has. Her unconventionality comes from not only the fact that she does roles that no one else would, but because she does not fit the “ideal” image of a Bollywood actress- the slim, fair one. The Padma Shri winning actress was bought up in Mumbai and her first appearance on screen was at the age of 16! She was seen in the sitcom Hum Paanch for the first time. After a lot of failed attempts for a breakthrough in Tamil and Malayalam films, she finally got her to break in 2003 in a Bengali movie-  Bhalo Theko. Her Bollywood appearance was in 2005 in the movie Parineeta along with Saif Ali Khan.

After that, she did a series of films and there was no looking back for this talented actress. On her birthday, let us take a look at a few Vidya Balan films that shouldn’t be missed.

1. Parineeta

The 2005 film by Pradeep Sarkar was her first Bollywood film which won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

2. Bhool Bhulaiyaa

The 2007 movie by Sajid Khan was probably one of the best acting done by her. The way she played the role of a person suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder (Spoiler Alert) was phenomenal.

3. Paa

The 2009 movie was by R. Balki where Vidya worked alongside Amitabh Bachchan. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her role in this movie.

4. The Dirty Picture

One of the most daring and bold portrayals by an actress won her the National Film Award for Best Actress. This is a must-watch movie.

5. Kahaani

A movie by Sujoy Ghosh, this mystery thriller got her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. A stellar movie with an amazing cast.

6. Tumhari Sulu

This fresh feel-good movie of 2017 is a must-watch. Vidya will again win your heart with her work.

6. Mission Mangal

In this recent release, she plays the role of Tara Shinde, the woman behind ISRO’s Mars Orbiter Mission. A role well played that depicted how the women of our country are taking the leap towards greatness.

Let us wish that this actress keeps gracing the cinema and her audience with more such movies. Happy Birthday to her!
