Tom Hanks Greyhound to release on 10th July

Actor Tom Hanks’s upcoming American war film Greyhound will be streaming on Apple TV on 10th of July. The film is based on the 1955 novel The Good Shepherd by C. S. Forester also stars Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan, and Elisabeth Shue. The film has been directed by Aaron
Schneider and the screenplay is written by the lead actor Tom Hanks.

The trailer is about a US Navy ship leads a convoy of ships with Allied troops under attacked by the submarines in early 1942, Commander Ernest Krause (Tom Hanks) has to navigate and supervise other escort groups during the dangerous part of the North Atlantic. The battle is about victory or defeat, chasing them down in the stormy seas.

In an interview to The Guardian, Hanks talked about being out on Apple Tv, “an absolute heartbreak. I don’t mean to make angry my Apple overlords, but there is a difference in picture and sound quality.”

He said in a virtual press conference, “It’s going to look different on your Apple TV. It’s going to have a different physical quality to the brightness and the appearance of the mood. It’s going to have a different sound than it would have if you were hearing it in a cinema. You can accept that because that’s the reality of what your eyeball is seeing and what your brain takes. The heartbreak is that those 800 people don’t get to go into a theatre as strangers, watch Greyhound, come out 88 minutes later with something in common. There’s no substitute. There’s no grander alternative than that because that’s why we are all here.”

Greyhound was scheduled to be released theatrically on June 12, 2020. But later got postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic. The distribution rights then were sold to Apple TV+ on a whopping amount $70 million.
