Netflix emerged as a frontrunner, securing two Best Comedy nominations for the acclaimed UK series “Derry Girls” and “Vir Das: Landing,” a stand-up special by the renowned Indian comedian, Vir Das. In a historic moment, both shows were honoured with the Best Comedy Series award, marking Vir Das’s groundbreaking win as the first Indian comedian to receive this prestigious recognition.

Global Talent Triumphs
The list of winners featured remarkable performances and productions from various corners of the globe. Martin Freeman took home the Best Actor award for his role in the gripping drama “The Responder,” while Karla Souza shone bright as the Best Actress for her compelling portrayal in the Mexican sports drama “Dive,” triumphing over strong competition, including Shefali Shah from Netflix’s “Delhi Crime.”

The Best Drama Series accolade was claimed by “The Empress, Sommerhaus Serien” from Germany, showcasing the international diversity of exceptional storytelling. The Best Documentary award was bestowed upon “Mariupol: The People’s Story,” a compelling production by Top Hat Productions, Hayloft Productions, and BBC from the UK.
A special highlight of the evening was the recognition of Ekta Kapoor, co-founder of Balaji Telefilms, who received the 2023 International Emmy Directorate Award in honour of her outstanding contributions to the television industry.

Vir Das, in addition to the shared Best Comedy win, earned an individual triumph by clinching the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series award for “Vir Das: Landing.” His victory marked a significant milestone as the first Indian comedian to claim an International Emmy.
