It is not easy to come out as a Queer when you are a star already, Elliot Page comes out as a Transgender

Oscar-Nominated Actor, Elliot Page, known for Juno comes out as Transgender, identifies as they/he

In a heartwarming post on Instagram, Ellen page (now Elliot Page) came out as a transgender and addressed that they/ he will be his preferred pronouns. Elliot Page, the Oscar-nominated actor, best known for the 2008 film “Juno,” came out as transgender on Tuesday, sharing the news in a long social media post. In his post, he writes,

“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life,” Page wrote. “I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.”

Struggles of coming out

In the post, Elliot has mentioned that despite the fact that he carries a privilege, he has written, “My joy is real but is also fragile, …. I am scared, scared of the invasiveness, the hate, the joke and the violence…. The discrimination towards trans people is rife, insidious, and cruel, resulting in horrific consequences. In 2020 alone, at least 40 trans people have been killed… 40% of trans people report committing suicide,” The post has other remarks to showing the fear for a trans person about their coming out as trans or for the whole queer community so to say.

Elliot is a well-known face and has a certain kind of following. For him, there is a certain kind of influence he has. His coming out as a trans might act as a story of inspiration to other trans people, or can backfire on him, throw hate and threat upon his career. For someone famous like Elliot, coming out can be a life-changing experience for them and can make them lose the fame, the success, and all the hard work that they have put in to reach where they are at today if they are not perceived rightly.

Elliot has come out on social media with an Instagram post and that is free to comment upon. Hence, there is an additional fear of getting hate on social media. No wonder how many have been standing in support of Elliot, but there are still people who are writing foul words, sexual slurs, and derogatory comments on the same post.

Besides, there is always a mental health crisis that lingers around coming out. Elliot, in his post, has clearly mentioned the fear he has, how fragile his happiness can be, and has even outlined the cases of suicide, struggles of the people of the community, and how mentally difficult it is to come out.

Well, Elliot has decided to come out at the age of 33, and we could perhaps not even imagine the kind of struggle he must have been through, in finally opening up about it. But here, One World News is absolutely delighted to extend our love and best wishes to Elliot. We are proud of him. We wish power and support for him and all the members of the queer community who are taking up the stand and are coming out.
