Problems With Adipurush: The Controversial Movie
Adipurush was supposed to be Bollywood’s huge hit, but considering all the problems with Adipurush, it seems like the movie has been tangled in one controversy after the other. From problems with the dialogues to misrepresentation of facts, here are the 3 big problems with Adipurush!
- The dialogue writer of Adipurush, Manoj Muntashir said that Lord Hanuman is not a god. He explained that Lord Hanuman is known for his devotion and we made him god because his devotion had that power. He said- “Bajrangbali bhagwaan nahi hai, bhakt hai. Humne unko bhagwaan banaya hai kyuki unki bhakti mein woh power tha.”

2. The movie has also been slammed for its “vulgar”and “objectionable” portrayal of Lord Rama, Hanuman, and Sita.The Allahabad High Court orally observed that “religious scriptures, which are associated with public sentiment, should not be touched or encroached upon”.

The bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Justice Shree Prakash Singh also added, “The issue here (in the PIL pleas) is that the way the movie has been made, there are some scriptures which are exemplary and are worthy of worship.”

3. Objectionable dialogues- It is not unknown that Adipurush had some of the most controversial dialogues as they violated the basic decency and respect that should be given to religious figures. Though the director Om Raut and writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla revisited the movie and changed the controversial dialogues, the damage was already done.
The box office collection of the movie has also been falling over the past few days. With the release of Satyaprem Ki Katha, its day’s collection went below 1 crore, whereas Satyaprem Ki Katha collected ₹9 crore on day one.
This is not the first time that people took so much creative liberty with movies based on religious history or myths that it has backfired. Most of the time these movies face controversy after their release as they either depict facts wrong or show no respect for the sentiments of people. Movies like Padmavaat, The Kashmir Files, The Kerala Story, PK, and more did see some backlash from a certain section of society.
