The excitement is building among Indian moviegoers as the highly anticipated film ‘Oppenheimer,’ directed by Christopher Nolan, gears up for release. According to prominent film trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the advance ticket sales for the movie have already exceeded an impressive 3 Lakh Tickets Sold on BookMyShow in India. What’s even more remarkable is that 42% of these tickets are specifically for the IMAX format, showcasing the immense anticipation for this cinematic experience.

Scheduled to hit Indian cinemas on Friday, July 21, ‘Oppenheimer’ is not the only movie garnering attention. Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of ‘Barbie,’ featuring the talented Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is also set to release on the same day. The advance booking for both movies has witnessed a phenomenal response, indicating a strong opening for them in the Indian market.

‘Oppenheimer’ started its advance booking ten days ago and has seen an overwhelming number of ticket sales across major theatre chains like PVR, INOX, Cinepolis, and even IMAX screens. On the other hand, ‘Barbie’ has also shown promise, with 54,000 tickets already sold across the three major chains for its opening day.

Interestingly, many cinema enthusiasts have booked tickets for both ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Barbie.’ In fact, 8% of those who booked tickets for ‘Oppenheimer’ have also secured tickets for ‘Barbie,’ and a substantial portion of the audience plans to watch both films on the same day. Additionally, it’s worth noting that 22% of ‘Oppenheimer’ ticket buyers have previously watched ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.’

During a press event for ‘Oppenheimer,’ Christopher Nolan was asked about watching ‘Barbie,’ to which he expressed a hint of disinterest, simply replying ‘no.’ However, he did acknowledge the significance of having a diverse lineup of movies in the theatrical marketplace, believing that a crowded marketplace with multiple film offerings is something moviegoers have longed for. He further emphasised that anyone who loves movies should be thrilled about this opportunity.
