27 Years of DDLJ: In the end, ‘Love Conquers All’

27 Years of DDLJ: 27 years of romance legacy

It’s been 27 years but still the magic of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has not gone off the minds of the audience. Whether it is in the theatre or on the TV, the moment the movie begins, the audience cannot help but stick to the screens till the movie gets over. More than two decades have passed but no one can really find a reason why they just can’t get over it. If you consider sweet romantic movies, then none have been able to match up to the standards of this movie.

Can you believe that DDLJ is still the biggest hit of Bollywood. Post that Shahrukh Khan delivered many blockbusters but he is still known as Raj. The charisma of Raj is unmatchable. Women still want a Raj in their lives.

Funnily the characters have even made people’s lives worse because of the raised expectations after the movie. Since it has completed more 1000 week of romance, value, relationships and what not and has been playing till date at the Maratha Mandir of Mumbai, we thought why not to recollect DDLJ memories and ask people around what till now touches their hearts:

“The first thing that comes to my mind about Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is the message of love that it gives away to the people. Like we always say that everything is fair in love and war, Raj (Shahrukh Khan) proves the same when he despite the fact that Simran (Kajol) is going to get married flies down to India to win over the hearts of her family and take his Dulhan away”, says Shubha Sharma, a college student.

What makes this movie even more special is that it was the first movie that I ever watched in the theatre. As far as the movie is considered, it’s impossible for me to forget anything about it. The romance, the innocence, I mean nothing can be found in the movies we watch these days and probably it triggered the feelings in many youngsters of that time and also, of the coming generations”, says Archit Saini, a DDLJ lover and a big fan of Shahrukh Khan.

“After watching DDLJ, I fell in love with the character of Raj so much that I wished to have someone exactly like him in my life. However, when I grew up I discovered the harsh reality that they are fictional characters, but still a part of me believes that fiction can be reality. The scene where Raj pretends to have had something sensuous with Simran the previous night in a hotel and Simran believing him starts crying always takes my heart away always” says Ayesha Khanna, an Arts student.

“To be honest, till college I didn’t see this movie. When my friends got to know about it, they held me and pushed me in my hostel room with a laptop that had that movie. I was made to watch it and seriously, after watching that movie I realized that I was missing a lot of love in my life! When the movie finished, my friends opened the room and I said- Now you guys should tell me, “Jaa Akanksha Ja Jeele Apni Zindagi.”, says Akanksha Thapliyal, employee of a media company.

The scene that Akanksha talks about was one of the difficult scenes for the director for a change because Shahrukh and Kajol were such close friends that the moment the scene would start they would start laughing out loud. Another fact was that no one except the director liked the title since it sounded really funny but who knew that it would be one of those movies which would set a trend and live on forever.

We wish to watch more such films that can capture your heart and soul.  Well, in terms of content creation, Bollywood has come a long way but we feel the magic has gone. DDLJ will continue to rule generations.  Thank you to the entire team for restoring our faith in love.
