Odisha Accident: In a devastating incident near NH 20 Balijodi, Kendujhar, a van transporting two families on a pilgrimage to Maa Tarini collided with a parked truck at 5 AM on Friday. The tragic collision resulted in the loss of eight lives, while 12 others sustained severe injuries, casting a sombre shadow over the pilgrimage journey.

Pilgrimage Tragedy: Tarini Temple Journey Ends in Grief

Among the victims, two families embarked on a journey to seek blessings at the Tarini temple. Jagdish Gaur, recounting the harrowing experience from the back seat, revealed that 17 souls were on board, including his family, his maternal uncle’s family, and some neighbours. Departing at 8:30 PM the previous night from Digpahandi, their plans were shattered in the dark hours of the morning.

The driver of the van is now a fugitive, while the injured find solace in Anandpur Hospital. Sadly, three individuals in critical condition have been referred to a Cuttack hospital. The remaining five are receiving treatment at Kendujhar District Headquarters Hospital.

Keonjhar Collector, Ashish Thakare, expressed sorrow over the incident, emphasizing that this tragic event unfolded near Ghatagaon on the National Highway, claiming eight lives and leaving a community in shock and grief.
